What do you like best about the product?
Technically, it was (and is) a great service, perhaps the best in the industry.

What do you dislike about the product?
We have been a customer of Pingdom for many years checking our servers for uptime. Our customers needed uninterruptable work and we needed to be notified in time when there was downtime. Up until recently, Pingdom worked very well for us. Unfortunately, a few days ago our customers started to complain that some of our servers were down (for a few hours). It was a minor issue that could be easily fixed in a minute, but we learned about it very late because Pingdom checks didn't work. When we logged on to our account at Pingdom we saw that our subscription was suspended even though we paid a year ahead in January. When we contacted Pingdom support they told us that they cancelled our account because we were a Russian company and they needed to comply with US export restrictions. They didn't even bother to warn us about cancelling our subscription. We have been their devoted customer for years and overnight we became enemies for them and they just closed their service for us WITHOUT a warning. Not even a simple email. Because of this incident many of our customers - from the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and Germany - had to suffer several hours of downtime simply because Pingom had silently turned off our subscription a couple of weeks before the incident and we didn't know about that. We blissfully continued to rely on their monitor alerts and this is how they treated their long-standing customer in the end. We wouldn't mind them turning off our account because of export control restrictions. But they could at least tell us about it. Overnight we became their hated enemy so much so that they didn't even take the time to tell us "Listen, guys, the US government says that we mustn't have you among our customers so regretfully we have to cancel the subscription. Please, take your time to find another service and don't hold a grudge against us.". And we would say "No problem, thanks for letting us know.". And this would be a civil way to resolve that. Now, I cannot recommend this service to anyone, especially if your company is outside the US. Technically Pingdom is a great service. However, the idea of a monitoring service is that it should be 100% reliable. But you cannot be sure that your subscription won't be silently turned off by Pingdom when your country is suddenly on a list of enemies (even if you sell on the global market as we do).

Technically is the best platform for monitoring. But you can't rely on it because they can silently turn off your subscription even if paid for, for political reasons.

Pingdom is great for notifying when a website goes down, and allowing analysts to start looking into the issue within milliseconds of the site losing connectivity. It also has a lot of helpful tools to help diagnose problems with websites.

Due to the way that it monitors by pinging your website from other countries, if there is an internet outage from the ping location to your server it will cause false alerts, and sometimes it can make it harder to get a bead on the problem..

Allows us to monitor indiviual websites hosted on servers rather than monitoring the entire server, is a nice supplement to IIS monitoring in SCOM.

What do you like best about the product?
Ability to setup alerts in an escalation matrix to track site downtime - saves the sudden panic calls when senior management finds errors and you look unprepared. The mobile app is a good touch - elevates it from beyond a background service to an always-on, always-aware assist.

The analytics for site performance tend to be proprietary - we normally use Google Analytics or GTmetrix, and somehow Pingdom's performance monitor never seems to agree with the results observed in these.

2 standard problems - 1 - tracking uptime and triggering alerts to concerned teams in case of a downtime. Knowing that there is an automatic escalation on it's way helps streamline and prioritize responses as per SLA, and allows responding developers to achieve SLA requirements more easily. Reports are also a standard inclusion in regular website health tracking and early-warning indicator of issues. 2 - Site performance stats - a standard tracking of load times with historical data is similarly a good indicator and helpful in tracing when / where issues occurred.

What do you like best about the product?
They have an API, which is not really decent, but at least allows to do some basic bulk actions. Their transactional checks are much better than others on the market have (at least, 6 months ago) -- it is the "scripted" language. When you need to create a lot of checks, at least, you don't need to click elements by mouse with some Chrome extension. Also, price is very nice for amount of the reports which you can generate.

What do you dislike about the product?
It is not so stable as we want. Every month they have the outages of their site/web-interface, the checks sometimes are failing while everything is completely fine. Also, the bulk changes are not easy neither through the API not through the web-interface

Not knowing there are errors on your website or not knowing that your website's performance is bad will cost you a lot more than Pingdom. Make sure you have a monitoring software. Other platforms are more expensive and give you the same basic insights in order to solve problems.

A client mentioned that he "felt" his website was slow. After implementing Pingdom, we could see that usually it wasn't slow, but sometimes it was. After investigating the the slower loading times we were able to tackle the problem.

The best part of this tool is it's ability to show a breakdown of webpage resources, loading speed and size to better understand a webpages load time and optimization. We can then determine what needs to be improved and changed to give the best experience to our website visitors, along with Search Engine Optimization.

I am pretty unhappy that they changed the user interface of the breakdown section so we can no longer easily filter the resource in the breakdown to easily find large file sized image resources that were taking the longest to load and causing optimization issues, along with user experience issues.

Google Chrome Developer tools have come a long way, and have the ability now to give that breakdown. Further, you can throttle the network speed to get a better understanding of visitor experience when using different network speeds.

Although it seems nearly unavoidable, we will frequently use up all of our SMS alerts anytime a server goes down for scheduled updates late at night. Typically we'll get an SMS alert for each domain stating that it is down, and then within 5 minutes we'll get an SMS alert stating that it is back online.

Pingdom makes it very easy to track our own websites performance across various levels. Pingdom allows us to easily see crucial metrics like downtime and uptime at a glance while also allowing us to dig deeper into a situation to identify any issues. We also have alerts set up so that way if there are any issues while we are not in the office, we will be made aware of any potential issues. We also use the page speed management tools in order to help track the impact of new code deployments.

What do you dislike about the product?
One of the biggest issues we have seen with Pingdom is the difference in reports from their free web tool for testing site speed and the paid tool that can be found within the app for monitoring site speed over time. We have found that the free web tool is more accurate than the paid monitoring tool when determining site speed. We do not exactly know why Pingdom is showing such different results, but we have consistently seen a difference.

We are currently using Pingdom to try to effectively track important website performance metrics. Their reports allow us to easily see changes and impacts. We also use Pingdom to track any downtime issues we may experience while we are out of the office through various alerts.
